May 27, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros announced three roster moves today, as OF Nathan Panther has been transferred to Class A Mahoning Valley and OF Bronson Sardinha and RHP Joanniel Montero have both joined the club from Class AAA Buffalo.

Panther, who's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Akron a 4-3 walk-off win over Erie yesterday, was hitting .264 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 39 games. The former 15th-round selection from Muscatine (Iowa) Community College opened the season with a nine-game hitting streak and was hitting .500 (6-12) in his last three games.

Sardinha began this season as a member of the Seattle Mariners organization and hit .323 in eight games for the Tacoma Rainiers before signing a free-agent deal with Cleveland May 6th. He was hitting .300 with two home runs and five RBI for Buffalo. Sardinha was originally a first-round pick (34th overall) of the New York Yankees in 2001 and made his Major League debut with the Yankees September 15th of last season. His brother Dane and Duke currently play for the Toledo Mud Hens (AAA - Detroit Tigers) and Tulsa Drillers (AA - Colorado Rockies), respectively. Bronson was named after the actor Charles Bronson and has the longest middle name of anyone in professional baseball (Kiheimahanaomauiakeo, 20 letters).

Montero began the season in Kinston and shuttled between there and Lake County while appearing in three games for both clubs (0-0, one save, 5.40 ERA for Kinston and 0-0, 3.27 ERA for Lake County). He had not pitched in a game since joining Buffalo. Montero was originally signed as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic in 2004 and went 7-3 for Mahoning Valley last season.
