
Bank of America Pitcher-Player of the Week Awards Week Ending May 25th

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending May 25th:
Bowie Baysox outfielder Luis Montanez has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending May 25th. The 26-year old hit .565 (13-for-23) with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 11 runs scored, eight RBI, seven walks, one stolen base and a 1.174 slugging percentage while leading the Baysox to six wins in seven games. Montanez had a hit in each of the seven games he played in last week, including five multiple hit games, and he also scored at least one run in each of the seven games. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native currently leads the league in hits (65) and is also ranked among the league leaders in extra-base hits (23-2nd), runs scored (35-tied 3rd), doubles (13-tied 4th), slugging percentage (.535-5th), RBI (35-tied 5th) and batting average (.325-tied 7th). Luis, who batted .339 and scored 24 runs in 31 games with the Baysox last season, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent on November 14, 2006.

Alfredo Aceves, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 25th. The 25-year old made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and had a record of 1-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 16 innings. Aceves made his Eastern League debut for the Thunder last Tuesday after receiving a promotion from Single-A Tampa and earned a no-decision despite surrendering only five hits and one walk while striking out seven batters in seven innings of work at Reading. In his second start of the week the 5'10", 176 lb. hurler struck out six batters and threw a complete game, four-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at Altoona on Sunday. Alfredo, who was 4-1 with 37 strikeouts and a 2.11 ERA in eight starts for the Tampa Yankees prior to his promotion to Trenton, was signed by the New York Yankees as a free agent in January after spending the previous six seasons pitching in the Mexican League, where he was 34-23 with a 4.06 ERA in 126 games.
