Splitsville...The Aeros avoided giving away some of their hard-earned momentum yesterday afternoon, as LF Nathan Panther roped the game-winning RBI double into the right field corner and Akron nipped Erie 4-3 to earn a split in the four-game series. The Aeros finished their longest homestand of the season thus far 6-2, including a four-game sweep of Altoona. Yesterday Akron needed the late heroics after Randy Newsom hit a batter and committed a throwing error while suffering his first blown save of the season. LHP David Huff threw the ball well in a no-decision, allowing just two runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings and lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.98 on the year. It was the first time Huff had allowed more than one run (earned or unearned) this month.
Movers and Shakers...Akron announced a trio of roster moves today, swapping outfielders and shoring up a bullpen that had been a man short. OF Nathan Panther has been transferred to Mahoning Valley, with OF Bronson Sardinha coming down from Class AAA Buffalo to take his spot. RHP Joanniel Montero also joins the Aeros from Buffalo, adding depth to a relief corps that had been short-handed since Bubbie Buzachero went up to the Bisons Saturday. Sardinha was hitting .300 in 12 games for Buffalo, while Montero had already pitched in three games with both Lake County and Kinston this year but had not appeared in a game with the Bisons. Panther was hitting .264 with two homers and 17 RBI in 39 games for the Aeros.
