Packer Goes Eight Plus But Costly Error Burns Aeros: Left-handed pitcher Matt Packer went 8.2 innings, but Juan Diaz committed a fi elding error in the top of the fi fth inning that allowed the game's only run to score as the Akron Aeros lost game two of a four-game series to the Erie SeaWolves 1-0 last night at Canal Park. Packer allowed the unearned run and suff ered the loss for Akron scattering seven hits and striking out six while walking two. His 8.2 innings was the longest start for an Aero this season. The previous high for longest start was eight innings (accomplished by Packer, right-handed pitcher Joe Gardner and left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland). The last nine-inning complete game by an Aero was Jeanmar Gomez's perfect game May 21, 2009 at Trenton. Left-hander Jay Voss recorded the win for Erie tossing seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits, walking four and striking out two. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Stohr got the last six outs to earn the save.

Tonight's Pitching Matchup: Akron will give the ball to left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz, who is 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 2011. He will face fellow southpaw Drew Smyly, who is making his Double-A debut.

White To Rehab With Aeros Tonight: Right-handed pitcher Alex White was received on a Major League Rehab Assignment today and will throw approximately one inning of relief for the Aeros this evening. The 2009 fi rst-round selection (15th overall) by the Cleveland Indians is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA, 15 strikeouts and nine walks in three starts (15 innings) in a Tribe uniform this season. He was 1-0 with a 1.90 ERA, 28 strikeouts and fi ve walks in four starts (23.2 innings) at Triple-A Columbus in 2011. As an Aero in 2010, White was 8-7 with a 2.28 ERA in 106.2 innings (76 SO, 27 BB).

1-0 Loss: The 1-0 loss to Erie last night was the fi rst for the Aeros since Opening Day of 2011 (April 7) against Binghamton at Canal Park.

Tale Of Two Diff erent Westerns: At 39-27, the Aeros have the best winning percentage (.591) of any team within the Western Division. Of all the teams in the Western Divison, the SeaWolves have the worst winning percentage within the division (25-40, .385).

On The Homestand: The Aeros were swept in a three-game series against Trenton to begin a sevengame homestand. Akron has split the fi rst two games of a four-game set against Erie. The Aeros are 1-4 on the homestand and 29-26 at Canal Park in 2011.

Recent Road Trip: The Aeros took three of four from Erie July 21-24. Akron is 26-26 away from Canal Park this season.
