New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Blake Martin turned in a solid start, but he was out-dueled by Bowie's Zach Clark as the Baysox blanked the Rock Cats, 1-0 on Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 7,684. It was the 19th sellout at New Britain Stadium this season.

Clark (6-7) combined with Chorye Spoone and Brandon Cooney to shutout the Rock Cats. Clark hurled five shutout innings and allowed the lone Rock Cats' hit - a single by Joe Benson in the fourth. Spoone added three scoreless innings in relief.

Martin (1-3) limited the Baysox to one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. The bullpen duo of Spencer Steedley and Dakota Watts combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to keep the Rock Cats within striking distance.

The Baysox scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning. Brandon Waring led off with a double to right field. Caleb Joseph sent a fly ball out to center to move Waring to third. Buck Britton then lined a single into right to plate Waring.

Benson kept the Rock Cats' hopes alive in the bottom of the ninth with two outs as he lined a 2-2 pitch into left field for a base hit. Cooney then caught Chris Parmelee looking for a called third strike to end the game and notch his eighth save.
