Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Chris Stevens tallied the equalizer at 13:02 of the third period and Thatcher Bell scored the game-winner in the second round of the shootout to lift the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 5-4 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers before 4,632 at the Orleans Arena in the "Midnight Holiday Round-Up" early Tuesday morning.
Phoenix (9-12-5) jumped out ahead early when Daniel Sisca scored his sixth goal of the year just 2:02 into the contest. But Las Vegas (19-2-3) would counter with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Brandon Kaleniecki opened the Wranglers scoring when he settled the puck in the slot, spun around and whipped a shot past RoadRunners' goalie Dave McKee at 6:29 on the power play to tie the game at 1-1. Tyson Strachan later scored his second goal of the season at 14:00 of the period giving Las Vegas a 2-1 edge.
The Wranglers would continue their attack in the second period as Peter Ferraro tallied his team-leading 12th goal of the year at 6:03 to extend the Las Vegas lead to 3-1. Tyler Mosienko made it 4-1 scoring off a Shawn Limpright centering feed at 16:27 on the power play. The RoadRunners would get one back as Gino Guyer tapped a bouncing puck behind Las Vegas goalie John Ceci at 18:05 to cut the deficit to 4-2 at the end of two periods.
In the third, Justin Maiser found the loose puck in the slot and lifted a backhander over Ceci and into the net at 10:18 on the power play to get the RoadRunners to within one at 4-3. Stevens then knotted the score 2:44 seconds later with his fourth goal of the season.
Despite out-shooting the RoadRunners 8-1 in overtime, the Wranglers could not tally the game-winning goal.
Maiser and Bell scored in the first two rounds of the shootout, while McKee stopped four of five Wranglers' shooters.
Las Vegas out-shot Phoenix 36-19. McKee stopped 32 shots to improve to 2-2-2 on the season. The RoadRunners went 1-4 on the power play while Las Vegas was 2-4 with the man-advantage.
