Gwinnett's Turple Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Dan Turple of the Gwinnett Gladiators is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 10-16.

The 6-foot-6 and 220-pound Turple was 3-0-0 with a 2.27 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage last week as the Gladiators extended their winning streak to seven games and moved into second place in the South Division with 37 points (18-5-1).

Selected in the sixth round (186th overall) by Atlanta in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Thrashers, the 22 year old made 42 saves, including seven in overtime, and stopped four of six shooters in the shootout for a 3-2 win against Augusta on Dec. 11. He had 27 saves in a 5-1 win at Charlotte on Dec. 13 before ending the week by stopping 38 shots in a 5-4 win at Augusta on Dec. 15.

Turple is 7-2-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and is tied for sixth in the ECHL with a .926 save percentage. He was 18-13-3 with a shutout and a goals-against average of 3.77 as a rookie for the Gladiators in 2006-07.

The native of Hamilton, Ontario played four years in the Ontario Hockey League where he was 87-51-14 with 12 shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.66 and a save percentage of .915 in 163 regular season games with Kingston, Oshawa and Kitchener from 2002-06.

Runners Up: Peter Aubry, Texas (2-0-0, 2.49 GAA, .916 save pct), Steve Silverthorn, Idaho (2-0-0, 1.94 GAA, .926 save pct) and Jeremy Duchesne, Dayton (2-0-0, 2.50 GAA, .898 save pct.).

Also Nominated: Derek Gustafson (Alaska), Bobby Goepfert (Augusta), Maxime Daigneault (Cincinnati), Jake Moreland (Fresno), Daniel Manzato (Las Vegas), Cam Ellsworth (Pensacola), Dave Caruso (Trenton), Nathan Lawson (Utah) and Billy Thompson (Victoria).
