Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The ECHL announced today that Gwinnett Gladiators goaltender Dan Turple has been named the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of December 10th through 16th.

Turple was 3-0-0 in three starts for Gwinnett last week and posted a goals against average of 2.27 and a save percentage of 0.939.

The 6-foot-6-inch Turple made 45 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory over the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday December 11th then stopped 27 of 28 shots en route to besting the Charlotte Checkers 5-1 on Thursday night. Turple topped off his week by making 38 saves and outlasting the Augusta Lynx for a 5-4 win in Augusta on Saturday.

Turple, a native of Hamilton, ON has a 2.51 GAA and a 0.926 save percentage in 9 starts on the season. He also has an overall record of 7-2-0.

Turple is the second Gwinnett netminder in as many weeks to be honored with the league award after Craig Kowalski won it for December 2nd through the 9th. This marks the first time in Gladiators history that Gwinnett goalies have been named goalie of the week two weeks running.

Additionally, this is only the second time since the 1996-97 season that two different goalies from the same team have been honored in back-to-back weeks. The first was last season when Toledo's Mike Brodeur was honored for the week of January 15th to 21st and Ervins Mustukovs picked up the honor for the week of January 22nd to 28th.

It is also only the fourth time that one team has taken the award home in consecutive weeks.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Thursday, December 20th as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at 7:05 p.m. at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Catch all the play-by-play action in Thursday's game online via AccessNorthGa.com audio stream 3.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
