3BAerodynamics...
That'll Play in Altoona...LHP Ryan Edell turned in a dominant outing yesterday morning as the Aeros closed their week-long road trip on a high note and avoided a sweep at the hands of the Altoona Curve with a 2-0 victory. Edell earned his first win of the season in phenomenal fashion, holding the Curve to just four singles over eight scoreless frames. The former College of Charleston standout retired the side in order five times, allowed only two runners to reach scoring position, and threw only 94 pitches.
Batmen...Even though the Aeros got a win yesterday the offense still struggled to give Edell enough support. Akron managed only two runs on six hits in the win, and in the three games against Curve pitching totaled just five runs on 13 hits in 27 innings. All the same, there were a few bright spots on the trip. DH Wes Hodges drove in Akron's first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, his first RBI since hitting a solo home run last Wednesday. 1B Matt Whitney collected a pair of hits yesterday, his team-leading seventh multi-hit game of the year and his first since last Tuesday. CF Jose Constanza also had two hits yesterday (and was robbed of a third) and is enjoying a season-high three game hitting streak. He picked up a hit in four of five games on the road trip and raised his average 59 points from .089 to .148 on the trip. Versatile Brandon Chaves also heated up away from home, collecting two multi-hit games and four extra-base hits while starting at four different positions. He raised his average 70 points from .094 to .164 entering play tonight.
You Can Only Hope to Contain Him...C Armando Camacaro pulled off a perfect delayed steal yesterday, swiping second base in the top of the sixth inning and then scoring an important insurance run. It was the fifth straight successful steal attempt for Camacaro, who is listed on the roster at 215 pounds (cough, cough). The native of Guarenas, VZ has not been caught stealing since August 4th, 2005 when he was thrown out trying to swipe third base by Reading's Tim Gradoville.
And Then There Were Two...It was an Aeros reunion on Opening Day in Harrisburg as pitchers Bobby Brownlie and Jim Ed Warden and catcher Javi Herrera all faced their former mates as members of the Washington Nationals organization. Brownlie and Warden are both back for a visit to Canal Park this time around, but Herrera was promoted to Class AAA Columbus Monday. Brownlie joined the Aeros in late July last year while Warden still ranks second in franchise history with 100 appearances (Marc Deschenes holds the record with 153).
Did You Know...C Chris Gimenez has reached base in all 12 games he's played in this season.
