Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- The rubber game between Bowie and Connecticut Wednesday night featured more blunders in the field by the Defenders as the miscues led to a 3-2 loss to the Baysox.

The Defenders cracked the score column first as Travis Ishikawa doubled home Kyle Haines from first as Connecticut took an early 1-0 lead after one.

Bowie struck back quickly as the second inning proved to be trying for starting pitcher Brooks McNiven. McNiven would surrender four consecutive base hits en route to a three run frame as the Baysox claimed a 3-1 advantage.

After crickets chirped for two innings, Connecticut brought life to the diamond in the home half of the fifth. Antoan Richardson led off with a triple and Haines continued his production as he tapped an RBI groundout to make it a one-run game.

Ryan Sadowski, Steve Palazzolo and Sergio Romo all pitched well out of the bullpen, keeping the Bowie hitters at bay but the Defenders couldn't put a run across to tie the game up. Their best chance to score came in the eighth inning as Carlos Sosa sparked a short two-out rally. Eddy Martinez-Esteve laced a shot up the middle to put runners on first and second with two outs but the rally was quickly diffused as Ben Copeland chopped a ball off the plate and was retired.

The Defenders will enjoy an off day before hitting the road for a three-game set against the Reading Phillies. Connecticut's hometown team will return to Dodd to face the Yankee-affiliated Trenton Thunder on Tuesday evening at 6:35pm. Tickets are still available for the series at ctdefenders.com or by calling the box office at (860)887-7962.
