Saturday Night Live...

The Aeros struck for five runs in the top of the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie and never looked back en route to their fifth straight victory, notching a 6-3 decision over the Baysox Saturday night. Akron improved to 18-4, but with yesterday's rainout fell a half-game behind Class AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre (19-4) for the best record in all of professional baseball. Sunday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader July 3rd at 5:05 p.m. at Bowie.

Big Red...DH Nick Weglarz had another big game for the Aeros Saturday night, socking a three-run homer to cap Akron's fifth-inning rally and finishing 2-4 in the contest. He extended his hitting streak to a season-high four games in the process, and over said streak is batting .412 (7-17) with two doubles, two homers, four runs scored and six RBI. He finished with five hits in the two games of the series, and in fact all three of his home runs and eight of his 11 RBI this season have come in Bowie at Prince George's Stadium. One of the key developments in the Canadian's recent surge has been his ability to use the whole field - of his last seven hits, the left-handed hitter has sent four to center or left-center and two more to left field. The lone exception was his RBI double Friday night when he pulled the ball inside the first base bag. The approach has helped Weglarz raise his batting average from .063 to .154 in the last four days also.

Frank the Tank...

Starter Frank Herrmann notched his team-leading third quality start of the year Saturday, and then let RHP Steven Wright collect the final seven outs to preserve Herrmann's second win of the season. The Harvard product worked into the seventh inning for the third time in five starts, holding the Sox to two runs while scattering eight hits in 6.2 innings. Herrmann was also helped by the efforts of the defense behind him, inducing double play grounders to end both the first and fourth innings. The twin-killing in the first was especially significant, as Bowie had the bases loaded with just one out and came away empty handed. The double play in the fourth got Herrmann out of a first-and-third, one-out situation, and he helped his own cause in the fifth by handling Ryan Freel's chopper and getting Joe Nowicki in a pickle between third and home. Bowie would go on to load the bases again in that inning with only one out, but managed just a single run.

Wonder Twin Powers...

CF Jose Constanza and 1B Beau Mills had almost identical lines Saturday evening, as both finished 2-5 with a run scored (Mills also had an RBI). Both also notched their seventh multi-hit game of the season to remain tied for the most on the club, although Constanza has the edge in three-hit games at four to two.

Did You Know...

2B Niuman Romero extended his hitting streak to a personal season-high five games last night. He is tied with backup catcher Damaso Espino for the longest hitting streak of any Aero this year.
