New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - New Hampshire pounded out 19 hits - led by four-hit nights by David Cooper and Brad Emaus - and Marc Rzepczynski hurled a gem as the Fisher Cats downed the Rock Cats, 8-3 on Monday night.
Rzepczynski (5-1), who brought a no-hit bid into the sixth inning that was broken up when Whit Robbins led off the inning with a single to center field, limited the Rock Cats to five hits and one earned run through 7 2/3 innings. He struck out six. Rzepczynski was backed by more than enough support from his offense, including a three-hit performance by Cody Haerther, while three different Fisher Cats added two hits apiece.
Meanwhile, the Fisher Cats jumped on Rock Cats' starter Ryan Mullins, hammering out 11 hits for five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Mullins (0-5) ran into trouble in the third when he served up a home run to Emaus to start the inning. Cooper followed with a one-out double and scored on a single by Nick Gorneault. Haerther added a single before a wild pitch by Mullins allowed Gorneault to score for a 3-0 advantage. Adam Calderone added an RBI double.
The Fisher Cats continued to feast off of Mullins in the fourth, with single by Luis Sanchez and Emaus. Mullins forced Brian Dopriak into a groundout double play before Cooper singled to right field to knock in Sanchez for another run. Gorneault added another base hit that knocked Mullins out of the game. Frank Mata came into the game to force Haerther into a groundout and end the inning.
The Rock Cats finally got on the board in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Matt Moses that score Wilson Ramos, who led off the inning with a single to center field.
Emaus added an RBI single in the ninth to round out his night.
