Akron RubberDucks News Release

Aeros Stat of the Night: - The Akron Aeros bullpen has allowed just 23 earned runs in the last 25 games. This equates to an ERA of 2.32 in the most recent 89.1 innings pitched with 89 strikeouts against 34 walks.

Aerodynamics... - Three in a Row... The Aeros beat the Erie SeaWolves 5-1 Wednesday night for the team's third straight win because of the efforts of the two youngest players on roster. Starter Alex White limited the visiting Wolves to a single run on a solo home run by first baseman Michael Bertram in the top of the second inning. Akron tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of that frame on an RBI single by Cord Phelps, scoring Carlos Rivero. The score remained tied until the fifth when back-to-back singles started a rally. Leadoff center fielder Tim Fedroff then hit a grounder up the middle for what looked like a routine double play, but an error loaded the bases and prolonged the inning. DH Lonnie Chisenhall followed with the deciding grand slam to center field against Erie starter Andy Oliver. That would be the end of the scoring for the night as White (2-1) cruised in earning the win with 6.2 efficient innings pitched and the Vermillion, Ohio native Oliver (5-3) took the loss in his return to Northeast Ohio.

- Wonderful White... The 21-year-old White is emerging as the new Akron ace despite just three appearances in Double-A this year. White now leads the Aeros staff with three quality starts on the season although he was promoted from Class A Kinston just two weeks ago. He was absolutely dominant yet again Wednesday against Erie as he recorded seven strikeouts, allowed just two hits, and he did not allow a walk until his final batter of the night. The Indians selected White in the first-round (15th overall) in the June 2009 Draft out of North Carolina and he has not disappointed. He currently ranks third in the Indians Player organization with a 2.54 ERA and is tied for second with 52 strikeouts in 11 combined outings between Kinston and Akron.

- Lonnie's Back... Chisenhall's grand slam Wednesday added to his solid production since returning from the disabled list last week. The homer was his second of the year and his second homer in just five games played after missing 14 contests with a right shoulder injury. Since returning last Friday, Chisenhall is batting .421 (8-19) with seven runs scored and seven RBI.

- End of an Era... Wednesday night's game also ended an incredible hitting streak by Akron third baseman Jared Goedert. The 25-year-old had hit safely in 21 consecutive contests entering the game, but finished 0-4 on the night. He struck out with two runners on to end the seventh inning in his final chance to tie Dave Roberts (1998) and James Betzsold (1997) with the franchise record at 22 games. Despite the end of the streak, Goedert still ranks third in the Eastern League with his .333 batting average.

- Dealing... The Aeros made another roster move today as lefty Scott Barnes returned from Class-A Mahoning Valley to start tonight in the series finale against Erie. Barnes was skipped in the rotation last his last time out and to make room on the 24-man list, righty reliever Carlton Smith was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 31st with a left oblique strain.
