Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-It took a hit on one of their own players, but the Milwaukee Admirals woke up in a big way in the second period on their way to a 3-1 win over the Iowa Stars on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.
Tied at one midway through the second period, Stars center Krys Barch put a hit on Milwaukee blueliner TJ Reynolds that opened up a gash on Reynolds forehead. While there wasn't a penalty called on the play, Ads forward, and former Star, Zack Stortini took exception to the hit and he and Barch squared off.
After the Stortini-Barch fisticuffs, the Admirals elevated their level of play and dominated the rest of the period. Jordin Tootoo gave Milwaukee the lead at the 14:10 mark of the second when he fired a shot from the top of the circle that beat Iowa goalie Mike Smith on the short side. Kris Beech and Libor Pivko assisted on the play.
Just over 2:30 later Brandon Segal gave Milwaukee a 3-1 lead when he also beat Smith on the short side. After Kevin Klein ripped a slap shot that Smith made the save on, Tootoo gathered the rebound and cycled the puck to Segal who fired a wrister past Smith.
The Admirals played a defensive third period and didn't allow the Stars many scoring opportunities as they ran their record to 4-0 at the Bradley Center against Iowa and put the breaks on a two-game losing streak.
Milwaukee tied the score at the 3:02 mark of the second with a power-play goal by Greg Classen on assists by Rich Peverley and Darren Haydar.
Tootoo had a goal and an assist and was one of four different Admirals players to finish the night at +2. Brian Finley made 20 of 21 saves to run his record to 13-5 on the season.
