PORTLAND, ME- On November 20, 2005, Megan Valente, age 12, a resident of Wells, Maine became the first ever winner of kid's Score-O presented by Hurley Travel Experts and Olympia Sports. Valente, age 12, shot a puck from inside the blue line through puck-size hole in the Score-O board and won a 4-night Bahamas cruise, trip for three on the Sovereign of the Seas courtesy of Hurley Travel Experts.
As part of Valente's accomplishment, she had a chance to be formally recognized by the Pirates and Hurley Travel in a brief ceremony on the ice following her winning shot. "I'd never even held a hockey stick before, but my Mom, and my brother and two sisters and I go to the games as much as possible," said Valente. "I was so excited to be picked to play Score-O and just before I shot, I said 'this one is for us all' and it went in! I think someone up above was looking out for us."
Valente will be taking her Mom, a local schoolteacher and her three siblings on this trip of a lifetime later this spring.
