Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - Blair Jones and Chris Lawrence scored goals in the first 54 seconds of the third period and Jonathan Boutin made 33 saves as the Norfolk Admirals (3-5-0-0) defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (3-4-0-0) 2-1 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope.
After a scoreless opening period, the Sound Tigers struck first early in the second period. While skating shorthanded, Blake Comeau dropped a pass to Jeremy Colliton, who flipped it past Admirals goaltender Jonathan Boutin at 0:58. Midway through the period, Norfolk killed a five-minute major high-sticking penalty to Jay Rosehill - including two minutes of a five-on-three disadvantage - to stay within one goal of Bridgeport through 40 minutes of play.
The Norfolk comeback began with another quick strike from Blair Jones just 31 seconds into the final frame. While stationed behind the net, Kyle Wanvig centered a feed to Jones at the top of the crease. Jones chipped the puck just under the crossbar and over Bridgeport goaltender Joey MacDonald's right shoulder to knot the score at 1-1.
Twenty-three seconds later, Justin Taylor sent a shot from the slot that MacDonald stopped. However, the rebound went to Chris Lawrence at the bottom of the right circle. Lawrence banged home the rebound at 0:54 for a 2-1 Norfolk lead. Boutin made the lead stand up with 11 third period saves.
Jonathan Boutin (34 shots, 33 saves) picked up his first win of the season. Joey MacDonald (33 shots, 31 saves) got the loss.
The Admirals were 0-5 on the power play. The Sound Tigers were 0-6.
The Admirals now travel to Philadelphia for a rematch of yesterday's game against the Phantoms. The puck drops tomorrow at 5:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum.
