San Antonio Beats Houston 4-1

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage (4-2-0-2) defeated the Houston Aeros (1-4-0-1)Saturday night 4-1 in front of 4,482 fans at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. G Josh Tordjman stopped 31 of 32 shots he faced and the Rampage scored shorthanded, even-strength (2) and power play goals in their fourth victory of the season. Houston had more shots (32) than any other game this season, however they finished 0-7 on the power play. The Rampage finished 1-5 on the power play. The teams will face-off again Sunday at Toyota Center starting at 4:05 p.m. Tickets are still available.

At the 9:31 mark of the first period, C Joey Tenute scored his third goal in two games against Houston when he tipped a shot in past G Barry Brust. It was a short-handed goal, however there were five skaters on the ice for San Antonio as there was a delayed penalty called against the Aeros. D Freddy Meyer and C Jon DiSalvatore assisted on the goal.

The Rampage was whistled for four penalties in the first period, however the Aeros were unable to convert on the power play. San Antonio held a 1-0 lead and 10-9 edge on the shot chart after one period.

Houston was again unable to convert on their power play in the early going of the second period. The Aeros had six opportunities with the man-advantage before San Antonio was given a power play, but to no avail. D Travis Roche made it a 2-0 game when he took a clearing attempt by Brust and ripped a slap shot off the post and into the back of the net. It was an unassisted goal.

Houston held the edge in shots after two periods at 23-18, but their power play was held scoreless in seven chances.

Houston was forced to kill three penalties in the final period slowing their chances of tying the game. At the 13:37 mark, C Yanick Lehoux made it a 3-0 game on a power play goal on assists from C Joel Perrault and LW Matt Murley. At the 17:44 mark, DiSalvator gave the Rampage a four-goal lead when he scored his third goal of the season. Only 13 seconds later, LW Ryan Hamilton flipped a backhand past Tordjman to end the shutout. He was assisted by LW Benoit Pouliot for his first point of the season and RW Danny Irmen. That proved to be the final goal of the game.

The teams will play again Sunday at Toyota Center starting at 4:05 p.m. It marks the first Family Day of the season for the Aeros. Tickets are still available and kids are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes.
