
P-Bruins Defeat Devils 5-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts. The P-Bruins got goals from Byron Bitz, Chris Collins, Vladimir Sobotka and two goals from Pascal Pelletier. The 6-1 Bruins now travel to the MassMutual Center to take on the Springfield Falcons Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m.
The Devils took the early 1-0 lead only 33 seconds into the opening period. Mike Pandolfo sent the puck towards the P-Bruins net from just inside the blueline and the puck snuck over the shoulder of Tuukka Rask and in. Stephen Gionta and Olivier Magnan recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 12:52 mark. T.J. Trevelyan sent the puck from the left side of the ice to Bitz, parked between the circles. Bitz scored with Martins Karsums picking up the second assist. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
In the second period, Providence took its first lead of the game at the 6:07 mark. Nate Thompson and Collins had a 2-on-1 advantage. Thompson took the initial shot, while Collins put home the rebound. Steve MacIntyre had the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the second intermission leading 2-1.
In the third period, the P-Bruins added three insurance goals, the first coming at the 7:10 mark. Sobotka put a shot on net and Pelletier scored off the rebound. Jonathan Sigalet grabbed the second assist. At the 14:37 mark, while on the power play the P-Bruins scored again. Once again it was Pelletier, but this time scoring off a rebound on a shot from Petteri Nokelainen. Matt Lashoff earned the second assist. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 18:57 mark. The P-Bruins Karsums and Sobotka had a 2-on-0 breakaway. Karsums carried the puck down the right side and passed off the Sobotka who scored. Providence went on to the 5-1 victory.
Rask played in net for the P-Bruins stopping 11 of 12 shots, while Frank Doyle made 37 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
