
Admirals Can't Bear Bruins' Attack

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals (24-38-2-5) fell to the Providence Bruins (47-15-3-3) 7-0 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Providence jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period. Byron Bitz opened scoring with a power play goal at 3:03. Jeff Hogan scored on a shorthanded penalty shot at 16:29.
The lead grew to 5-0 after forty minutes. Nate Thompson stole the puck at his own blue line and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal 45 seconds into the second stanza. Chris Collins made it 4-0 when he found a rebound between the leg pads of Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin and poked it into the goal at 12:45. Jeff LoVecchio netted another Providence shorthanded goal at 18:34.
The Bruins netted two goals 12 seconds apart midway through the final frame. Matt Hendricks scored at 11:09 while Collins scored his second of the game at 11:21.
Jonathan Boutin (33 shots, 26 saves) got the loss. Marc Denis stopped all six shots he faced in relief. Tuukka Rask stopped all 27 shots he faced for the shutout victory.
Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Providence was 1-5.
The Admirals will continue an eight-game homestand on Friday and Saturday nights when they entertain the Lowell Devils. Both games will begin at 7:15.
