Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals and the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will hold their annual "Pink in the Rink" event at the Admirals game at Norfolk Scope on Saturday, January 15th, 2011. This popular annual event where the ice is dyed pink will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Educating women and men about the importance of early breast cancer detection is one of the primary goals of the event. Recent polls have shown that most women are unaware of the causes of or risks for breast cancer. Game attendees will learn about local programs, support groups and how they can decrease their risk.
Special $12 Red Level Tickets will be available for the game with a portion of proceeds being donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure online at www.komentidewater.org or by calling (757) 490-7794. Tickets for groups of 10 or more people may also be ordered in advance by calling the Admirals at (757) 640-1212.
Events leading up to and during the game include a breast cancer informational session, survivor participation during game night, "Hockey 101" and a silent auction for player-autographed Tampa Bay Lightning items. The "Hockey 101" will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. Seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Admirals and Komen would like to extend special thanks to Care Free Boat Club and H&R Block for sponsoring Pink in the Rink 2011. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available through the Admirals' offices by calling (757) 640-1212.
The Norfolk Admirals have been members of the American Hockey League (AHL) since 2000. They are the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning. On January 15, the Admirals will face off against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the top minor league affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders. The game will start at 7:15 p.m.
