LOOKING AHEAD:
First place in the West Division is on the line tonight when San Antonio visits Peoria... The teams are deadlocked atop the West at 47 points apiece and are going head-to-head for the first time since Nov. 17, when the Rampage went into Carver Arena and took a 3-1 victory... Rivermen rookie goaltender Jake Allen (13-3-0, 1.60, .950, 5 SO), who leads the AHL in goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts, has stopped 59 of 60 shots (.983) in his last two outings... Forward Graham Mink shows a team-high five points (1-4-5) vs. San Antonio; Mink is currently stuck in an 11-game goal-scoring drought overall... T.J. Hensick has a point in five of his last six outings (2-4-6) for Peoria... San Antonio has lost three straight and four of five (1-4-0-0) since the Christmas break after starting the year 22-8-1-0... Second-year pro Matt Watkins shows five points (3-2-5) in his last three games, including his first career hat trick on Dec. 29 vs. Oklahoma City... Petr Prucha put up 7-10-17 in 16 games for San Antonio but was recalled by parent-club Phoenix on Tuesday... Brett MacLean paces the Rampage in goals (14) and points (31) in 34 games... San Antonio has the AHL's second-ranked power play (23.0 percent), but Peoria counters with the league's top-ranked penalty kill (87.7 percent).
Connecticut makes its second visit of the season to Worcester on Wednesday... Three of the clubs' previous four meetings this season have required extra time to decide, with Worcester collecting at least a point in all four (2-0-1-1)... The Sharks have just two wins in their last seven contests (2-4-1-0)... Worcester leading scorer Jonathan Cheechoo (13-22-35) has recorded a point in seven straight games (4-5-9) and 10 of his last 11 (6-9-15)... Cheechoo boasts six points (2-4-6) in four games against the Whale this season... Defenseman Sean Sullivan (10-11-21) is the only other active Shark to have reached 10 goals for the year... Goaltender Alex Stalock (15-13-2) has appeared in 30 of Worcester's 35 games thus far after making 61 appearances (39-19-2) en route to AHL All-Rookie Team honors in 2009-10... Connecticut is 12-2-0-2 since Nov. 27 but dropped a 3-0 decision to Manchester on Sunday in its most recent action... That loss ended Tim Kennedy's three-game goal-scoring streak (3-0-3) and five-game points streak (3-3-6)... Veteran Todd White shows three points (2-1-3) in three games since joining Connecticut's lineup... Whale forward Jeremy Williams leads the AHL with 19 goals (19-12-31) and Kris Newbury places third with 30 assists (5-30-35) in 38 games apiece... The Whale and Sharks are each averaging 2.74 goals per game, tied for 20th in the AHL.
Chicago, which has played 24 of its first 39 games on the road, becomes the first AHL team to reach the halfway point of its schedule tonight by hosting Toronto in the opener of a seven-game homestand... The Wolves are 7-2-0-1 in their last 10 games and with 43 points overall, they sit fifth in the West Division but just four points out of first... Chicago has already defeated Toronto twice at Ricoh Coliseum this season... Wolves leading scorer Jason Krog (8-30-38) has a point in four of his last five contests (1-5-6), while Spencer Machacek has found the scoresheet in seven of his last eight outings (3-7-10)... Machacek totaled a career-best 49 points in 79 games last season but has already amassed 33 points (14-19-33) through 38 contests in 2010-11... Toronto, in the midst of playing nine straight on the road, is trying to snap a three-game winless skid (0-1-0-2)... The Marlies have totaled only four goals in the three contests and just 11 goals in five games since a 6-3 win at Peoria on Dec. 21... 2010 AHL All-Star Christian Hanson has been hot, though, with a goal in three straight contests (3-0-3) and five of seven (5-1-6) for Toronto... Rookie Marcel Mueller is on a four-game assist streak (0-4-4)... Toronto has surrendered eight shorthanded goals, second-most in the AHL.
