Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD BC - For the second night in a row Vancouver Canuck prospect Sergei Shirokov would get the game winning goal in a 2-1 Manitoba Moose overtime victory over the Abbotsford Heat in AHL action Tuesday night at the AESC.

Both teams would jockey for position in a fast and physical first combining for two power plays aside, as the period would end in a scoreless tie going in to the second.

Greg Nemisz would put an end to Abbotsford's 150 minute goal drought at 2:20 of the second period, as he would pick up his own rebound in the slot and fire it top shelf glove side past Manitoba Moose goaltender Tyler Weiman to make it 1-0 Heat in the second. Both Abbotsford's Leland Irving and Manitoba's Tyler Weiman would make key stops near the end of the second as the two teams would trade last minute chances in the second frame with the score remaining 1-0 Heat going to the third.

Manitoba Moose defender Kevin Connauton would tie things up at 9:37 of the third period, as he would skate in on a 2 on 1 and make a nifty little move to his backhand to lift it over the glove hand of Leland Irving to notch the game at 1-1 and send it to an extra frame.

Sergei Shirokov would continue his hot hand and get his third goal in two games on a the dreaded 4 on 3 overtime power play for the Manitoba Moose to give them the victory over the Abbotsford Heat.

The Heat will now wait till Friday January 7 to take on the Adirondack Phantoms in a two game home stand. Puck drops at 7:00pm at the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre.
