Winston-Salem Dash News Release

The Winston-Salem Dash opened up their 2022 campaign with a 7-5 win over the Hickory Crawdads, at Truist Stadium.

After Sean Burke worked a scoreless top of the first, Bryan Ramos opened up the scoring with an opposite field home run to right, giving the Dash a 1-0 lead.

The score held at 1-0 into the bottom of the third inning, when Moises Castillo stepped in against Owen White. Castillo swung on the 2-1 offering, and drove it just over the right field wall for another solo home run, and the Dash took a 2-0 edge.

Triston Polley relieved White in the fourth inning, before facing Adam Hackenberg. He worked to a hitters count at 2-0, before driving a ball deep into left field for the third solo blast of the night. After four, Winston-Salem lead 3-0.

Hickory got their bats going in the sixth inning, putting runners on the corners with one gone for Cristian Inoa. Inoa laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Thomas Saggese. The Crawdads kept the inning going with a pair of bases loaded walks from Frainyer Chavez and Trevor Hauver, which knotted the game at three apiece.

However, that tie would not hold up very long. After Luis Mieses and Tyler Osik reached to lead off the bottom of the sixth, in stepped Hackenberg again in a big spot. He delivered for the Dash, launching a three-run home run over the wall in left-center, to give Winston-Salem a 6-3 lead.

The Crawdads fought right back in the next half inning, when Inoa stroked a double all the way to the center field wall. That plated Chris Seise and Keyber Rodriguez, cutting the Dash lead to 6-5.

Tyler Osik added an insurance run in the home half of the seventh. He dribbled one into no-mans land down the third base line, allowing Oscar Colás to scamper home and make it a 7-5 ballgame.

Winston-Salem sent out Zach Cable to shut the door in the ninth inning, and he sent down the Crawdads in order to secure the save, and win number one on the season for the Dash. Theo Denlinger was credited with the win, while Triston Polley suffered the loss for Hickory.
