MUSKEGON, MI- The Motor City Mechanics defeated the Muskegon Fury 7-2 and won their fourth game in a row and recorded their first win in franchise history at the L.C. Walker Arena as Adam Edinger sets the pace with the four goals in front of 2,654 Fury fans.
Adam Edinger (13, 14) started the game scoring two more goals, the only goals scored in the period and his 10th and 11th goal in the past 8 games. The first goal came on the power play at 15:59 when Greg Bullock (19) and Matt Smith (4) handed out the helpers. The second goal at 17:42 was assisted by Brent Gretzky (16) and newcomer Vlad Serov (1). Although the score favored the Mechanics the Fury actually out shot the Mechanics in the first period 10 to 9.
The Mechanics would outscore the Fury 2-1 in the second and lead the game 4-1 heading into the second intermission. Chris Gignac (5) would score shorthanded with the lone helper from Kris Vernarsky (5). Bullock (4) would tally the other goal with Scott Dobben (5) earning the assist. The Fury still lead in shots after two periods as they would tally 15 to just 11 Mechanics shots and overall had 25 to 20 Mechanics shots.
Edinger completed his hat trick (15) at 4:47 of the third with helpers from Gretzky (17) and Mike Burgoyne (5). Burgoyne (5) would score on the power play at 12:39 as Gretzky (18) tallied his third assist of the game and Smith (5) tallied his second assist of the game. Just minutes later Edinger tallied his fourth goal of the game (16) as Smith (6) and Gretzky (19) would tally the helpers again.
Rod Branch made his 11th straight start and recorded his 11th win of the season as he made 34 saves. The win also marked the first time the Mechanics won at L.C. Walker Arena and just the second win in franchise history over the Fury.
The Mechanics return home tomorrow night December 10th when the Quad City Mallards come to town. Saturday is also the second annual TEDDY BEAR TOSS! Bring a new or unwrapped bear and when the Mechanics score their first goal toss the bear onto the ice. All of the collected bears will be donated to Toys For Tots. Tomorrow marks the return of "MAD MEL" Angelstad as he makes his home debut against the Mallards!!
