Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), surrendered the lead to the Komets early in play Friday night, and were never able to catch up, as they fell by a final score of 4-1 at the Roanoke Civic Center.

Jonathan Goodwin got the Komets on the board first at the 7:58 mark of the first period, followed less than four minutes later by P.C. Drouin, who would end up with two goals on the night, as he netted his first at the 11:31 mark. The Vipers battled back in the same period, looking to regain control of the match, as rookie L.P. Martin scored off passes from Vipers captain David Beauregard and rookie defenseman Alex Jerofejevs at 16:53.

The Komets got lucky again in the second period as Drouin put in his second goal of the night at the 10:53 mark. Neither team would score again until 19:03 of the third. After sending an extra attacker to the ice, the Vipers lost control of the puck, and David Carpentier took advantage of the Vipers' vacant net to diminish Roanoke's chances of a late rally.

The Vipers have been without right wing Mark Scott and center Matt Miller, who are both currently on the Vipers injured reserve, and have combined for 23 points over 16 games thus far this season. The team anxiously awaits their return to the lineup, and their greatly-missed offensive strength.

Roanoke looks to break its losing streak Saturday night as they host the Elmira Jackals at 7:35p.m. Join the Vipers in helping a good cause, while enjoying some exciting United Hockey League action - bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal for the Toys for Tots Teddy Bear Toss, or purchase a Vipers teddy bear at the merchandise stand!
