
Adam Champion One Hitter Guides Otters to Doubleheader Sweep

(FLORENCE, KENTUCKY) - Evansville native Adam Champion threw a complete game one-hitter on Sunday night as the Otters beat the Florence Freedom 3-1.
Champion, who was born and raised in Evansville, pitched 6.1 innings of no-hit ball, before allowing his first hit, a solo home run to infielder Stephen Cardullo.
The game was actually scoreless in to the top of the seventh and last scheduled inning. Designated hitter Brett Chamberlain swung at the first pitch and led off with a solo home run that just crept over the left-center field wall. Ahead 1-0, outfielder Luis Uribe then followed two hitters later with a solo home run to left field and infielder Luis Parache hit a home run to right field as well.
Spotted to the three run advantage, Champion came within two outs of the first no-hitter in the 18-year history of the Evansville Otters organization.
After allowing the home run to Cardullo, Champion retired the next two batters in order for the win.
The Otters complete the doubleheader sweep, win the series, and are now 29-37 in the standings. The pair of losses knock Florence down to 35-31.
Champion (4-4) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit. He also had four walks and seven strikeouts in the win. Andres Caceres (6-3) receives the loss after yielding two runs in 6.1 innings.
The Evansville Otters will be off on Monday and begin a three-game series against Joliet on Tuesday night. It will be Deaconess Clinic Night at the ballpark with $1 popcorn.
