Alaska Aces News Release

The Alaska Aces seven-game winning streak came to a close in a 3-1 loss to the Victoria Salmon Kings at Save on Foods Memorial Centre on Friday evening in the penultimate game of the regular season. Alaska lost for just the second time in the last 15 games, dropping to 46-22-3 on the year. The magic number to clinch the Brabham Cup remains at one point. The Aces can clinch the regular season title with one point or a Greenville loss on Saturday. Greenville hosts Gwinnett in their third straight meeting. The Aces will close the regular season with one final game in Victoria Saturday night, before returning home on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th for Home Games A & B of the Western Conference Semifinals. For the second straight game, the Aces fell into an early 2-0 hole, after surrendering a pair of quick goals to the Salmon Kings. Cam Ritchie scored on the first shot of the game 33 seconds into the contest. Ex-Ace Ryan Turek then scored on a power play at 6:13 in his first game back from an injury suffered against Alaska on March 11th. The Aces cut the deficit in half when Wes Goldie got Alaska on the board with his league-leading 45th goal of the year at 13:02. The goal extended his goal streak to six games and point streak to 17 games. The Aces pressed for the remainder of the period, but could not find the equalizer.

Each team posted seven shots on goal in a scoreless second period with both clubs hitting the post. The Kings maintained their 2-1 led through the third, and held the Aces at bay, eventually scoring a power play goal into an empty net at 19:59 from Adam Taylor.

Gerald Coleman (29-15-1) took the loss, making 20 saves on 22 shots. Jimmy Spratt (8-4-1) earned the win, making 24 saves on 25 shots in replace of the injured David Shantz. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play, while the Salmon Kings went 2-4. The Aces outshot the Kings 25-23 in the game.

The Aces will close the regular season with one final game in Victoria on Saturday, before returning home on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th for Home Games A & B of the Western Conference Semifinals in the debut of the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
