
Salmon Kings Sign Chad Klassen

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has signed forward Chad Klassen.
The Warman, SK native joins Victoria after finishing his 2010-11 season with the University of Alberta Golden Bears (CIS) where he amassed a team-leading 46 points (18g-28a) and 20 minutes in penalties in 28 games. Klassen completed a four-year career at the University of Alberta where he totaled 111 points (41g-70a) in 97 games to go along with 56 penalty minutes. Additionally, during his time at school, Klassen was twice named to the CIS Canada West First Team All-Stars (2008-09 and 2009-10) and also was awarded honors to the CIS All-Canadian First Team (2008-09) as well as an All-Canadian Second Team (2010-11). Klassen also helped the Golden Bears to a University Cup in 2008 and was named the Canada West MVP in 2010.
The 25-year-old forward began his junior hockey career with five seasons (2001-02 thru 2005-06) in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Spokane Chiefs and Saskatoon Blades. Klassen spent the majority of his time in the WHL with four an a half seasons in Spokane where he scored 96 goals and 156 points for 252 points while tallying 231 penalty minutes in 282 games played.
The 5-11, 175 lb Klassen finished his WHL career after a mid-season trade during the 2005-06 campaign from Spokane to Saskatoon. The forward finished the year with 28 games with the Blades where he registered 32 points (13g-19a) and 10 penalty minutes. Klassen also participated in 25 career WHL Playoff games between the Chiefs and Blades where he notched 17 points (9g-8a) and 34 minutes in penalties.
The Salmon Kings open the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs with Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal series this Monday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Game 2 will take place in Victoria the following evening on Tuesday, April 5th. Puck drop for both games goes at 7:05 p.m.
