
Stingrays Topple Everblades in Shootout; Face Nailers in Opening Round of Playoffs

Estero, FL -The South Carolina Stingrays (37-29-3-3) wrapped up the 2010-11 regular season with a 2-1 shootout win over the Florida Everblades (37-30-1-4) Saturday night in front of 7,140 at Germain Arena. With the win, the Stingrays face the Wheeling Nailers in the opening round of the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Everblades forward Matt Beca grabbed the opening marker at 7:58 of the first period slipping a shot under the right pad of Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Defenseman Evan Stephens and forward Alex Imbeault earned assists.
The Stingrays tied the contest on the power play 2:09 into the third period when forward Matt Scherer snapped a shot over the glove of Everblades keeper Mike Zacharias from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Defenseman Nick Tabisz and forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien grabbed assists.
O'Brien and forward Rob Ricci lit the lamp in the shootout to complete the comeback for the Stingrays. Ford earned the victory stopping 18 of 19 Everblades shots. Zacharias suffered the loss blocking 32 of 33 Stingrays chances.
The Stingrays kick off the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs with game one of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 5 against the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
