New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Reno Aces rallied with a run in the top of the ninth to force extra innings, and scored four times in the 10th to defeat the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 11-7 on Thursday night.
New Orleans nursed a 7-6 lead into the ninth, when Nick Wittgren allowed a leadoff double to Socrates Brito, who advanced to third on Galloway's errant throw and scored on sacrifice fly by Jack Reinheimer.
Jumbo Diaz (4-6) came on to escape a bases loaded jam with one out to keep the game tied, but Reno capitalized on an error to plate four runs in the 10th. A potential double play grounder by Reinheimer which would have kept the score tied was mishandled by Isan Diaz, and Christian Walker followed with an RBI single ahead of Kevin Cron's two-run double.
Jimmie Sherfy retired the side in order in the bottom of the 10th to end Reno's four-game losing skid and hand the win to Jake Barrett (4-0), who pitched two scoreless innings. New Orleans committed four errors in the game, and had four runners thrown out on the basepaths.
Reno took its first lead of the series in the second inning when Anthony Recker reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a Juniel Querecuto single and scored on Cesar Puello's sacrifice fly.
Jon Rodriguez answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run, his 11th of the season, to knot the score.
Puello drove in his second run of the night in the fourth with a ground out to again score Recker, who had singled with one out, but the Baby Cakes came back an inning later to grab the lead. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out before Isaac Galloway's grounder plated the tying run, and an errant throw allowed the go-ahead run to trot home.
The lead was short-lived, as a pair of fielding errors by Rodriguez opened the door to a big inning for the Aces, who got a pinch-hit grand slam from Yosmany Tomas to jump in front, 6-3, and end Jarlin Garcia's outing.
But again New Orleans responded, as the first five batters in the bottom of the sixth reached against Braden Shipley. Peter Mooney and Adames delivered RBI singles, and Eric Campbell tied the game with the fourth hit of the frame, a single to left. Campbell finished with two singles, a double and a walk to boost his season batting average to .324, ninth-best in the league.
The 'Cakes loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, and Adames came through with his second run-scoring knock of the game to put the Baby Cakes ahead, 7-6.
The Baby Cakes continue the homestand on Friday at 7 p.m. with the opener of a four-game set against the Tacoma Rainiers.
