Oklahoma City - A five-run sixth inning pushed the El Paso Chihuahuas to an 8-2 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Friday night in the series opener between the teams at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers built a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then were held without a run as the Chihuahuas scored eight runs over the final four frames.
Friday's loss snapped a three-winning streak for the Dodgers, who took the field wearing Cielo Azul uniforms as part of the second ¡Celebración Cielo Azul! of the season.
The Dodgers (57-45) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Henry Ramos hit a one-out single and scored on a RBI double down the left field line by Andrew Toles for the first run of the night. Connor Joe followed and lined a RBI single into center to bring home Toles and boost OKC's lead to 2-0.
Edwin RÃ-os followed with a walk before El Paso starting pitcher Brett Kennedy retired 11 straight OKC batters.
The Chihuahuas (56-48) took the lead in the sixth inning. After loading the bases, Shane Peterson drew a bases-loaded walk from Edward Paredes to cut Oklahoma City's lead to 2-1.
With the bases loaded again, Diego Goris hit a grand slam onto the Budweiser Deck in left field for a 5-2 El Paso advantage.
The Chihuahuas added a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for a 6-2 lead.
A RBI single by El Paso pinch-hitter Francisco Mejia in the eighth inning gave the Chihuahuas a 7-2 lead before a RBI single by Shane Peterson boosted El Paso's lead to six runs in the ninth inning.
Kennedy improved to 10-0 on the season with the win, allowing two runs and five hits over 6.0 innings. He issued one walk and recorded seven strikeouts.
Chihuahuas pitchers racked up 13 strikeouts against the Dodgers' offense - tying OKC's season high for strikeouts in a nine-inning game. El Paso also outhit Oklahoma City, 12-6.
Dodgers starting pitcher Zach Neal (2-2) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs and five hits over 5.1 innings. He issued two walks and had four strikeouts.
¡Celebración Cielo Azul! continues against Los Chihuahuas de El Paso at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Xpogo Stunt Team will perform, presented by Okie 811. The extreme pogo riders will display a thrilling blend of athleticism and entertainment throughout the night.
Folkloric dancers will perform and a silent auction for players' and coaches' game-worn Cielo Azul jerseys will be held during the game to benefit the OKC Dodgers Baseball Foundation and Latino Community Development Agency.
Also during ¡Celebración Cielo Azul! new specialty foods will be offered at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, such as a pambazo sandwich, chorizo fries, chorizo sausage, chicharrones nachos, empanadas platter, pinchos, elotes and sopapillas. Latin music and a bilingual environment will enhance the gameday experience for fans.
Cox Communications will televise the game live on YurView on Cox (Channel 1333) beginning five minutes before first pitch.
