Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
SACRAMENTO, CA - Frank Schwindel led a breakout night for Omaha's offense with 3 hits and a home run, and the Storm Chasers completed a sweep of the River Cats with a 10-7 victory on Thursday night at Raleigh Field.
Omaha took advantage of sloppy Sacramento defense early, scoring 3 times in the top of the 1st. Nicky Lopez walked, Ramon Torres doubled Lopez in, and Torres went to 3rd on a flyout by Frank Schwindel. Ryan O'Hearn hit into a fielder's choice, and Sacramento botched the rundown between 3rd and home, allowing Torres to score. Elier Hernandez then reached on an error by 3rd baseman Ryder Jones, as O'Hearn scored to make it 3-0.
Sacramento fought back with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st; after Joe Panik singled, Mac Williamson crushed a ball to center, cutting Omaha's lead to 3-2. Miles Schroder tied it in the bottom of the 2nd with a homer of his own, and it was 3-3.
Omaha reclaimed the lead in the top of the 5th on a Ryan O'Hearn RBI double and a Donnie DeWees RBI groundout, making it 5-3.
The Chasers then extended to a 9-3 lead in the 6th. Parker Morin doubled, Terrance Gore reached on a throwing error (allowing Morin to score), and after a Nicky Lopez single, Frank Schwindel clubbed a 3-run round-tripper.
Lopez made it 10-3 with an RBI single in the 7th; his hit followed singles from Humberto Arteaga and Parker Morin.
Jon Dziedzic (W, 5-8) tossed 6 innings for Omaha, allowing 3 runs, 6 hits, and 2 walks. He struck out 5.
Shaun Anderson (L, 0-1) was charged with 9 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 3.
Sacramento chipped away at Omaha's lead in the 7th and 8th. Josh Staumont issued two walks in the 7th, and after a fielder's choice and a stolen base, Peter Bourjos doubled home the runners to make it 10-5.
In the 8th, Staumont walked Ryder Jones, and with 2 out, he was replaced by Sam Selman . Selman was greeted by three consecutive singles by Gregor Blanco, Trevor Brown, and Orlando Calixte, slashing the lead to 10-7.
Michael Mariot (S, 1) restored order with a scoreless 9th, earning his first Omaha save of the season, and giving the Chasers three consecutive wins and a series sweep in Northern California.
The Storm Chasers (47-56) will open a new series in Fresno tomorrow night at 9:05 Central. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (1-0, 1.65) will oppose Fresno's RHP Rogelio Armenteros (7-1, 3.99)
