Aces Prove Too Much for Bakersfield as Condors Fall 3-1

ANCHORAGE, AK - The Bakersfield Condors (4-4-1-0, 9pts) had offensive difficulties and fell to the Alaska Aces (6-3-0-0, 12pts) by a score of 3-1 on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. Michael Gergen tallied his second goal of the season in the loss.

Alaska received two early power plays and capitalized on their second opportunity when Wes Goldie backhanded a shot from the side of the net past Condors G Matt Keetley at the 10:44 mark of the first period. With the Aces ahead 1-0, Goldie hit F Peter Boyd high in the neutral zone and then had a brief fight with C Casey Pierro-Zabotel which resulted in Goldie being ejected from the contest and a seven-minute power play for Bakersfield. The Condors were unable to convert on the first 6:39 of the man advantage and the teams headed for the intermission with the Aces in front, 1-0. Shots were 18-9 in favor of Alaska.

Bakersfield could not convert on the remaining 21 seconds of the major power play and failed on a second occasion on the power play in the second period. Neither side found the back of the net in the middle frame as the Aces outshot Bakersfield, 6-4.

Alaska extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play at 4:53 of the third period when Nick Mazzolini was able to tuck a quick shot from the slot through Keetley. The Condors would cut the deficit in half at 2-1 with a power play strike from Michael Gergen, 10:28 into the period. The Aces added an insurance tally to make the final score 3-1 after Garry Nunn completed a two-on-one with Dan Kissel at 14:26.
