Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces got the rebound performance they were looking for on Friday night, with a 3-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors from Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. Alaska's win snapped a three-game losing skid, and improved their season record to 6-3, including a 6-1 home mark. The Aces conclude the three-game series with the Condors with a Saturday night rubber match. Tickets are on sale now. The Aces got the first goal of the game on a Wes Goldie wraparound during a power play at 10:44 to make it 1-0 Alaska. The goal stood as the only goal for the first two periods, but was hardly the lone story of the opening period. Alaska peppered Matt Keetley for most of the period, putting 16 shots on the Bakersfied net in the opening 13 minutes. However, at 13:21, Goldie was called for a five-minute major for elbowing Peter Boyd, and received an addition four-minute double minor and an ejection. It added up to a seven minute power play for the Condors, but the Aces highly-ranked penalty killing unit killed off the extended man-advantage. Alaska outshot Bakersfield 18-9 in the frame.
The teams combined for just 10 shots in a scoreless second period, and Alaska maintained their one-goal lead entering the third.
The Aces added to their lead in the third period with another power play goal. Scott Howes fed Nick Mazzolini in the high slot, and Mazzolini powered a shot that trickled through Keetley at 4:53 to make it 2-0. The Condors cut the Aces lead in half when Michael Gergen scored at 10:28 on a Bakersfield power play. However, the Aces pulled away for good at 14:26 when Nunn capped a rush into the zone redirecting a Dan Kissel pass just inside the left post to end the scoring.
Gerald Coleman (6-3) earned the win, making 17 saves on 18 shots, and Matt Keetley (3-2) made 33 saves on 36 shot, suffering the loss. The Aces power play went 2-5, while the Condors went 1-5. Alaska outshot Bakersfield 36-18 in the game.
The Aces conclude the three-game series with the Condors with a Saturday night rubber match. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
