Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces allowed 12 earned runs through the first four frames on Monday night, en route to a 12-4 loss to the Tucson Padres in the series opener at Kino Stadium.
Reno held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the third, when things spiraled out of control. RHP Zeke Spruill put away the first batter he faced, before allowing the next 10 Padres to reach base. The Aces did record an out in the stretch, as Brad Snyder gunned down Eddy Rodriguez at home for his third outfield assist of the season, but the damage was done. Eight Tucson players came across to score before Chase Anderson entered in relief of Spruill to end the inning.
Spruill was charged with nine runs on 10 hits in 2.2 innings pitched in his worst outing for Reno.
Snyder continued his success at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and a triple. Fellow outfielder Juan Rivera did not record a hit on the night, but managed to knock in two runs. Ryan Stovall, who rounded out the outfield corps, recorded his first multi-hit game at the Triple-A level. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI.
Neither team scored beyond the fifth inning, with Stovall recording the only hit by either club in the final four innings of the game.
The series continues Tuesday night at Kino Stadium. RHP Matt Wright (2-1, 6.65 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Padres will counter with former Aces LHP Jason Lane (1-2, 6.59 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.
