Tucson wins over Reno

The Tucson Padres scored eight runs on seven hits in the third inning Monday on way to a 12-4 victory over the Reno Aces at Kino Stadium. The Padres have won 13 of their last 18 games, but dropped to 5.5 games back in the division after Las Vegas swept a doubleheader in Colorado Springs.

Reno took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Juan Rivera grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Brad Snyder from third. The Padres quickly answered in the bottom of the first with Gregorio Petit's third home run of the season to tie the score. Ryan Stovall's RBI single to center in the second put the Aces back ahead by one run. Tucson erupted for eight runs in the third in a 12-batter inning to take a 9-2 lead. The scoring output was their second highest for a single inning this season. Jonathan Galvez, Eddy Rodriguez and Brandon Allen each produced two RBIs in the bottom of the third.

Galvez drove in his third run of the game in the fourth with an RBI single to center, while Daniel Robertson extended the Padres lead to 12-2 with a two-run single. The Aces narrowed the score to 12-4 in the fifth with two runs on two hits.

Keyvius Sampson earned his second win for the Padres, going six innings, scattering four runs on seven hits. Zeke Spruill lasted 2.2 innings, surrendering nine runs on ten hits in the loss. The Padres compiled 14 hits in the game. Five Padres had multi-hit performances. Allen led the way with three hits, while Galvez had a game-high three RBIs. The Padres have 106 hits in their last eight games.
