Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - In a close game until the very end, the Las Vegas Wranglers dropped their season opener against the Alaska Aces after being dealt a 2-1 deficit in a shootout on the road.
Aces right wing Chris Bruton scored the first goal of the night during a power play late in the first period at 17:58, with assists from defensemen Steve Ward and Bryan Miller. The Wranglers remained down 1-0 until the second period when rookie forward Scott Campbell notched his first professional goal at the 15:13 mark. With an assist from center Geoff Paukovich, the Wranglers knotted the game 1-1.
With neither team able to score in the third period and overtime, the season opener for both teams turned to a shootout. Campbell, shooting third, tallied his second goal of the night over Aces goalie Gerald Coleman and tied the shootout at 1-1, but Aces right wing Wes Goldie, older brother to Wranglers center Ash Goldie, got his shot off against Wranglers goalie Joe Fallon to win the game for Alaska 2-1. Fallon held the game to a low score and saved 35 of the 36 shots he faced, earning him one of tonight's Three Stars.
The team takes on the Aces again tomorrow night at 8:15 p.m. PST and looks to even the series before returning to Las Vegas for the Wranglers home opener against the Ontario Reign on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:05 p.m.
