Chicago Express News Release

Toledo, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, played their first game in team history tonight at the Huntington Center, and collected a 5-1 win behind two goal performances from LW Blair Riley and D Drew Paris.

Toledo struck first in the opening period, as RW Kyle Rogers curled into the slot and fired a shot past Express goaltender Rob Nolan. The power play goal was assisted by LW Aaron Lewicki and C Joey Martin. Chicago was able to strike back, when Riley recorded the first goal in Chicago Express history at 8:12 of the frame. Paris carried the puck into the zone, moved it to Riley, and Riley fired the shot into the back of the net. The period ended tied at 1-1.

The Express gained their first lead of the night just under nine minutes into the second stanza. At 8:52 of the period, Paris collected a pass from D Darcy Campbell and fired a shot over the glove of Walleye netminder Thomas McCollum. The Express held the lead into second intermission, thanks in large part to the goaltending of Rob Nolan. Toledo held a 25-12 shots on goal advantage through the second period, including out-shooting Chicago 10-3 in the middle frame.

The Express exploded for three goals in the third period. Riley added his second goal of the night at 3:38 after finding a bouncing puck on his stick. D Evan Stephens got involved with the scoring as well after picking up a pass in the neutral zone and slipping a shot past a sprawling McCollum. Paris added the final scoring of the night at 10:57 as he fired home his second power play goal of the game. Nolan stopped 34 of 35 shots to earn the win.
