Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Tyler Murovich's goal in the 11th round of the shootout helped lead the Gwinnett Gladiators to a 2-1 overtime shootout victory over the Florida Everblades Saturday night at Germain Arena.
Gwinnett struck first, as Justin Milo led a 2-on-0 rush into the zone, eyed his trailing teammate, then called his own number with a shot past the blocker side of Everblades goaltender John Muse to give the Gladiators the 1-0 lead.
The ¬ËBlades responded at the 15:06 mark of the first period. Forward Robbie Dee slipped a pass from the slot to the left wing circle to Luc Tardif who fired a wrist shot past Gwinnett goaltender Jeff Jakaitis to tie the game at one. Tardif scores his first goal of the season in his first ECHL appearance.
The final two periods became a goaltender's duel. Both Muse and Jakaitis made several stellar saves to keep the score tied at one, forcing the game to the overtime shootout.
The neither team could register a goal in the first six rounds of the shootout. Ironically, the two lone goal scorers for their respective clubs, Tardif and Milo, both scored in the seventh round. In the eighth round Florida's Robby Dee scored, but Gwinnett's Scott Fleming matched with a goal of his own. Finally in the 11th round, Tyler Murovich was able to beat Muse and seal the game.
Muse stopped 34 of 35 shots, while Jakaitis stopped 37 of 38 shots faced in the contest. Despite the loss the Everblades do earn a big point in the standings in the early season. The win marked the first, for new Gladiators head coach John Wroblewski. For complete game stats CLICK HERE
