Trenton Titans News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The effort was certainly there, and the Titans certainly skated better than they did Friday night.

Yet, the outcome was the same, as the Elmira Jackals (2-0-0-4) completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Trenton Titans (0-2-0-0) with a 3-1 victory before 3,143 at First Arena Saturday night.

The Titans outshot the Jackals 36-33, and dominated play for much of the game, but ended up with nothing to show for their effort in the Southern Tier.

Again they gave up the early goal, as Elmira's Artem Demkov put one past Titans goalie and Flyers prospect Brad Phillips just 37 seconds into the game. Riley Armstrong then put Elmira ahead, 2-0, with a power-play goal at the 7:46 mark.

The Titans then began to execute, Phillips made several key saves and Titans defenseman Tyler Hostetter, a Flyers prospect, scored Trenton's first power-play goal at the 14:37 mark of the first period.

Despite outshooting Elmira, the Titans were unable to put in the equalizer, and Mike Ratchuk's short-handed goal 15:35 into the second period gave Elmira a 3-1 lead and the Jackals were able to hold off the Titans as goalie Timo Pielmeier played superbly.

The Titans, in the two games at Elmira, were 1-for-15 on the power play, and have a week to regroup before their home-opener vs. the Florida Everblades at the Sun National Bank Center Saturday, Oct. 22.
