ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Peter Aubry posted 39 saves in regulation and overtime, then turned away four of five Long Beach attempts in the shootout as Alaska preserved its lofty perch atop the West Division with a 2-1 win over the Ice Dogs before 5,078 Friday at Sullivan Arena.

After a scoreless first period in which Long Beach out-shot the Aces 16-14, the Ice Dogs took advantage of a neutral zone turnover midway through the second and Marco Rosa ripped a wrist shot by Aubry top shelf for a 1-0 lead at 10:51. The advantage lasted less than three minutes, as Scott Gomez found an open Charles Linglet in the slot for the equalizer with 6:45 left in the period. Linglet's 23rd of the year tied the game 1-1 heading into the final 20 minutes.

Alaska managed exactly one shot in the final period, but Aubry withstood a final flurry in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime. The Ice Dogs held a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal over the third period and OT, but failed to beat the Alaska goaltender, who has lost just two of his last 18 starts (12-2-4). Vladimir Novak scored in the first round to give the Aces an early edge in the shootout, and while Chris Kenady broke through in the fourth round against Aubry, Alaska clinched the victory when Olivier Filion beat Long Beach goalie Olivier Michaud (29 saves) top shelf in the fifth and deciding round.

The Aces improved to 10-2-2 in games that have been tied after two periods and 35-15-6 overall, good enough for a one-point lead over Bakersfield and a two-point margin over the Dogs heading into tomorrow's rematch with Long Beach at 7:15 p.m. The teams also will play on a KeyBank "Sunday Skate with the Aces" at 5:05 p.m.
