Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â The Victoria Salmon Kings and the Bakersfield Condors renewed acquaintances at the Bear Mountain Arena on Friday, with the Condors skating to a 7-3 victory.
The Salmon Kings added five new players to their line-up and released two, and were definitely victims of the roster shake-up. Out of the line-up was New York Rangers product Dan Blackburn who played 12 games with the Salmon Kings who decided it was time to test himself at a higher level. Also out of the line-up on Friday was forward Greg Keith.
In for the Salmon Kings was University of Lethbridge goalie Jaime McCaig and goalie Robert Muntain who played this season with Regina University. Muntain started the game and faced a barrage of rubber, finishing 40 minutes with 40 shots and six goals against.
Also into the line-up for the Salmon Kings was defenseman Kurtis Dulle from Regina University and forwards Casey Bartzen from the University of British Columbia and Geoff Rollins who began the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League, with the Winston-Salem Polar Twins.
The Salmon Kings finished the first period down 3-2. The Condors opened the scoring on Mathieu Brunelle's even strength goal. David Neale replied with his third of the season before Paul Rosebush and Brett Lutes added two more for Bakersfield. Ryan Wade capped the first frame with his powerplay marker to send the Salmon Kings to the break down just one.
The Condors opened the flood gates in the second with 20 shots on rookie goalie Muntain, scoring three times from Ryan Gillis, Brunelle's second and Brad Mehalko, sending Bakersfield to the break up 6-2.
The Salmon Kings out shot the Condors 14-13 in third but it was not enough as they both scored a single. The Salmon Kings goal came off the stick of Scott Turner, his third in the fish shirt, and Brunelle capped the trick to get to the 7-3 final.
The Salmon Kings and the Condors go one more time at the Bear on Saturday March 5, 2005, game time is 7:00 pm. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
