Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – Victoria Salmon Kings have released New York Rangers goaltender Dan Blackburn. The decision came from above that Blackburn's two-blocker experiment has proven positive and it is time for him take his challenge to the next level.

"Dan played twelve games with us, and gave us a chance to win every game," said General Manager and Head Coach Bryan Maxwell, on Friday. "Danny now has to see if he can continue to the next level.

Blackburn finished with the Salmon Kings with 12 games (3-9), his goal against average was 3.54 and he had a .892 save percentage. Two of Blackburn's wins came in the shoot-out where he shone one-on-one.

The Victoria Salmon Kings wish Dan the best of luck and long NHL career.

The Salmon Kings also parted ways with forward Greg Keith, placing him on waivers. Keith played four games with the Salmon Kings and finished with no points and a -3.

Friday the Salmon Kings showcased the debut of four new players from Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and one from the Southern Professional Hockey League. Forwards Casey Bartzen (University of British Columbia), Geoff Rollins (Winston-Salem Polar Twins) and defenseman Kurtis Dulle (Regina University) filled out the roster or Maxwell, while Robert Muntain (Regina University) and Jaime McCaig (University of Lethbridge) joined the Salmon Kings between the pipes.

"We have a lot of youth in here right now eager to prove themselves," said Maxwell of his new additions.

Maxwell's roster moves did not stop there as he also activated forward Ryan Finnerty of the 7 day IR.
