Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Game

The Aberdeen IronBirds begin a six-game road trip today at the Auburn Doubledays (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals). Prior to the all-star break, the IronBirds closed out a three-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters with a 9-3 win. A tie game through seven innings, the IronBirds put up a six-spot in the eighth-inning to pull away and eventually win. The IronBirds look for their second-straight win with the right-hander Tyler Wilson on the hill. Wilson did not allow more than a run in either of his first two Aberdeen starts. He'll go up against left-hander Christian Meza.

All-Star Game Wrap-Up

Yesterday, the Lowell Spinners hosted the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. The National League defeated the American League 7-3. No IronBirds started, but three played in the exhibition. Trent Howard pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one. Dudley Leonora went 0-for-1 and Glynn Davis was 0-for-2. Joe Velleggia was selected to play in the contest but did not due to illness.

Bridwell Promoted

Over the all-star break, right-handed pitcher Parker Bridwell was promoted to the Class-A Delmarva Shorebirds. Bridwell is the third IronBirds pitcher to be promoted in the last week. He went 2-5 with a 4.53 ERA in 11 starts. He's currently tied for second in the NYPL in strikeouts (57). Bridwell joins Jake Cowan, David Baker, and Mike Wright as former 2011 IronBirds now in the Shorebirds starting rotation.

Auburn Doubledays

The IronBirds open up a three-game series at Auburn today. Aberdeen swept the Doubledays in a three-game set last season at Ripken Stadium. Auburn is currently alone in first-place in the Pinckney Division. The IronBirds have losing records against four of the six teams in the Pinckney Division.

The Home Stretch

Yesterday was the last scheduled off-day in the NYPL. The IronBirds currently have 11 more scheduled road games and eight home games. Aberdeen closes the season at the Hudson Valley Renegades on September 4th.
