Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 3-1 on Wednesday night at Historic Bowman Field behind an excellent team pitching performance.
The ValleyCats notched their only run in the second inning, as Zach Johnson's home run to deep left made it 1-0.
Williamsport answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, using a sac fly by Geancarlo Mendez and an RBI single by Aaron Altherr to make it 2-1.
The Cutters pushed the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, as Harold Martinez drilled a mammoth solo home run to left-center off Tri-City reliever Garrett Bullock.
That score would be the final, as the Cutters were backed by a stellar start from lefty Lino Martinez, who earned his team-leading sixth win of the year with six strong innings. Relievers Colton Murray, Austin Brough, and Juary Gomez each fired a scoreless frame to close out the victory.
With the win, Williamsport remains one game back of the Auburn Doubledays, who triumphed 4-2 over Aberdeen. The Cutters continue their six-game homestand with another matchup versus Tri-City on Thursday at 7:05pm. Every game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
