Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY -- The Brooklyn Cyclones (33-24) resumed play after the All-Star Game on Tuesday night, opening a three-game series by defeating the Jamestown Jammers (29-29) by a score of 5-2 on BrooklyNite at MCU Park.

The Cyclones wasted no time in getting the scoring going as they tallied a run in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, Cole Frenzel hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Danny Muno from third. Muno used an evasive feet-first slide to avoid the tag from the catcher and put Brooklyn up 1-0.

Brooklyn added three more runs in the bottom of the second. After a RBI groundout by Danny Muno with the bases loaded brought home a run, Javier Rodriguez produced a two-run triple to right center that gave the Cyclones a 4-0 lead. Rodriguez entered the night hitting .357 (10-for-28) over his last seven games with four multi-hit contests and nine RBI over that span.

Righthander Marco Camarena provided an impressive outing in his eleventh start of the season, struck out eight and did not yield an earned run in 4.2 innings of work. The native of Sinaloa, Mexico has not walked more than two batters in any outing since July 7th, 2008 with the DSL Mets. Orlando Tovar (5-1) earned the win in relief after adding 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Jammers tallied their first run in the top of the fifth inning on a throwing error by Xorge Carillo as Terrence Dayleg attempted to steal third base. Dayleg had doubled on a line drive to left with two outs.

Jamestown added another run in the top of the ninth inning on a two-out double to left by Ryan Goetz that just passed the outreached glove of Richard Lucas . The run was charged to Jeremy Gould who then proceeded to induce a flyout to right to end the ballgame.

The Cyclones and Jammers will continue their three-game series tomorrow, Thursday, August 18 at 7 PM. Eduardo Aldama (3-3, 4.06 ERA) will battle Matthew Neil (1-3, 3.43 ERA). Thursday will be New York Football Night and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will have the choice of a Green or Blue Cyclones Football Jersey as we hold a Jersey-Lection to see which colors rule the gridiron in NYC. Former Jet Marty Lyons and former Giant George Martin will be on hand to sign autographs as the Cyclones raise funds for the Marty Lyons Foundation and the NFL Alumni Association. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park box office, or logging onto BrooklynCyclones.com.
