-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD TO FACE RENEGADES: The State College Spikes begin a six-game road trip tonight with the first contest in a three-game set against the Hudson Valley Renegades at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY. State College is 7-7 all-time against the Renegades and 4-2 against Hudson Valley in Fishkill.

-LAST GAME: Samuel Gonzalez of the State College Spikes earned the MiLB.com Top Star Award in the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game as both he and the Spikes' Wes Freeman played a pivotal role in carrying the National League All-Stars past the American League All-Stars, 7-3, at Edward LeLacheur Park in Lowell on Tuesday night. After a scoreless first inning, Freeman led off the second for the National League squad with a base hit to right-center field off of Connecticut's Brennan Smith, which turned into a two-base hit thanks to his aggressive baserunning. Freeman then scored on a single, and Gonzalez then added to the damage, sending a ball sailing to the warning track in right-center field for a double that scored two more NL runs, and scored himself.

-KINGHAM ON THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Kingham gets the ball for State College tonight. In each of Kingham's last six starts, the Las Vegas, NV native has gone at least five innings while allowing one run or less. Last time out, the Pirates' 2010 fourth-round draft pick went a career-long six innings against Aberdeen, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Kingham has a 2.65 ERA, good for sixth in the NYPL.

-SHULL STARTS SERIES FOR RENEGADES: Hudson Valley right-hander Trevor Shull gets the ball for the Renegades tonight Shull has only made two starts for Hudson Valley since going 1-0 with a 2.51 in five starts for the GCL Rays earlier this year. The 2008 19th-round draft pick allowed seven runs in four innings against Tri-City last time out.
