Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants outfielder Reggie Abercrombie has been named the Pointstreak Batter of the Week for August 22-28, the American Association announced on Monday. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

In six games, Abercrombie batted .464 (13-for-28) with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. The speedster also stole four bases and scored six runs. Abercrombie collected two consecutive four-hit games against Winnipeg this past Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Abercrombie's second home run of the night lifted the Pheasants to a thrilling walk-off victory at Sioux Falls Stadium.

"Reggie certainly earned this award with an outstanding week," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley said. "The guys on the team really look up to him for hard work and veteran leadership he brings."

Hampered by an early-season injury, Abercrombie was hitting just .217 by the middle of June. He has steadily raised his average to his current season mark to .306 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI, second on the team in each of those categories. In the month of August, he is hitting a blistering .383 with four home runs and 23 RBI.

Abercrombie is also second in the league with 33 stolen bases.

Abercrombie is the first Pheasant to earn this award this season. Pheasants pitcher Ben Moore has twice been named the league's Pitcher of the Week.

Fans can see Abercrombie play for the final times in 2011 tonight and tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium, both against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Tuesday is Fan Appreciation Night and Double Play Tuesday. Tickets are two for the price of one. Fans can purchase tickets in person at the Pheasants' box office or online at www.sfpheasants.com.
