Wingnuts' Tie-Breaker Scenarios Announced

August 29, 2011 - American Association (AA)
Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts head into their final two games of the 2011 regular season tied with the Gary SouthShore RailCats atop the Central Division, and tied three-ways with the RailCats and St. Paul Saints for the American Association wild card.

The Wingnuts finish the season with two games at El Paso. Meanwhile, the RailCats and Saints have two games remaining in their head-to-head series at U.S. Steel Yard.

Should the Wingnuts win their final two contests, Wichita would be guaranteed an outright playoff spot. Based on geography, the Wingnuts would face Grand Prairie in the opening round, regardless of what method is used to get in. Games One and Two would be scheduled at QuikTrip Park for Thursday and Friday respectively.

If all three teams remained tied through the 100 games, St. Paul would be awarded the wild card, while the Wingnuts would host the RailCats in a one-game playoff at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday, August 31st at 7:05 p.m. A buy-one, get-one-free ticket special will be offered for all seats at the regular adult price for any potential one-game playoff.

If the Wingnuts finish tied with either Gary SouthShore or St. Paul, with the third team finishing ahead of the other two, the Wingnuts would again host the remaining club for a one-game playoff on Wednesday.

The Wingnuts would host Games Three, Four, and Five of the opening round from September 3rd-5th.

The Wingnuts play at El Paso tonight at 8:05 p.m. Central Time. Ryan Hinson faces right-hander Scott Hodsdon. All the action can be heard locally on Oldies 93.5 KWME and worldwide at www.kleyam.com
