August 29, 2011 - American Association (AA) News Release
Fort Worth 3, Shreveport-Bossier 2
The Cats and Captains were one strike away from extra innings Monday night with the score tied 2-2 in the ninth. That's when 2B Derek Kinzler sparked a two-out rally that eventually gave Fort Worth a 3-2 win. Kinzler hit the first of three consecutive singles. On the third base knock - 3B Will Calhoun's first of the night - Kinzler's pinch runner, Aljay Davis, scored to give Fort Worth the victory. Kinzler reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances, walking twice with two singles. For Shreveport-Bossier, LF Chad Gabriel went 3-for-4 with an RBI, his 50th of the season.
Sioux City 4, Lincoln 3
The Explorers got an exciting, walk off victory Monday night against Lincoln, 4-3. CF Dustin Jones singled in 2B Brian Bistagne. It was Jones' second hit of the night and Bistagne's only run. Sioux City's first three runs came in the second inning, overtaking a 2-0 Lincoln lead. The Saltdogs never led again. Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision, and Eddie Delacruz picked up the victory for Sioux City, tossing a perfect ninth while striking out one Saltdogs batter.
Amarillo 3, Grand Prairie 0
The Sox led almost from the get-go against the AirHogs on Monday, taking a one-run lead in the second and adding two more in the top of the ninth to take the 3-0 victory. The security runs both came on a Josh Banda single. Banda also produced his club's first score on a second-inning single that plated Adam De La Garza. No Amarillo pitcher threw more than two innings, with Justin Garcia taking the win after throwing the third and fourth frames following starter Matt Elliott. Elliott also threw two shutout innings. AirHogs leadoff RF Stephen Douglas went 2-for-5, joining teammate David Espinosa and Banda as the only players with more than one hit.
St. Paul 7, Gary SouthShore 4
Saints RF Ryan Patterson hit a three-run homer in the third, breaking the scoreless tie and propelling St. Paul to a 7-4 victory. Patterson went 3-for-5 with a run and four RBI. St. Paul 2B Adam Frost joined Patterson in the three-hit club, going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Starting St. Paul pitcher Alberto Rolon threw the first six and a third innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. For Gary SouthShore, LF Chris Carrara went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI.
Winnipeg 8, Sioux Falls 5
Goldeyes C Luis Alen hit a home run on his way to going 2-for-5 and leading his team to an 8-5 win over Sioux Falls. The long ball was Alen's fifth of the year. Alen was one of two Winnipeg players with more than one hit, joining Jon Weber, who had a double and went 2-for-4 with two runs. The Goldeyes never trailed, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings to take a lead as large as four runs. For Sioux Falls, Gus Milner went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Kansas City 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2
Kansas City scored three runs in the fifth inning, taking a 1-0 deficit and turning into two-run lead. And despite Fargo Moorhead's best effort, the T-Bones held on to win, 3-2. Kansas City CF Keanon Simon led all players in hits, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Simon doubled in Ben Baker in the fifth before eventually coming around on a Ray Sadler single. Fargo-Moorhead 2B Carlo Cota was one of three RedHawks with two hits, going 2-for-2 with a run scored.
